Before the World Cup, Liverpool and other Premier League clubs were already being linked to Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who’d been having a great start since joining the Eagles in the summer.

It turns out that the midfielder’s couple of appearances for Argentine in Qatar were more than enough to fuel the rumours of a transfer to a top league, so the Portuguese media can’t stop talking about that.

On Monday, newspaper Record had a long story about Fernandez listing the clubs who’ve been interested in him, and that included Liverpool. O Jogo and A Bola also mentioned the Reds.

That same article, however, pointed out that Benfica have no intention of selling the player in January, as they’re focused on their sporting project, and highlighting that he’s protected by a €120m release clause.

Today, the newspaper is back to cover some news from Spain which says Real Madrid also want Fernandez. And when speaking of competition for the Santiago Bernabéu side, there’s another mention to Liverpool, with the Reds said to be among the Premier League clubs who ‘lead’ the pursuit for the midfielder.

Record repeat that Benfica already ‘defined’ they’re ‘unavailable to negotiate’ Fernandez’s exit in January, seeing him as a ‘key element’ in the squad, meaning any interested club will need to pay the €120m release clause.
