As you might have noticed since the transfer went through, Romania have been quite excited about Radu Dragusin going to Tottenham.
The transfer made the centre-back the most expensive Romanian of all time, and while he has yet to fully find his feet in London, that hasn’t stopped some from criticising his first performances.
On the other hand, there are some who understand that he was never going to have an immediate impact at Tottenham, such as Mihai Stoichita, who, speaking to Fanatik, jumped forward to defend the Spurs player after the 3-0 loss to Fulham.
Asked where the player was at fault for any of the goals conceded by Ange Postecoglou’s side, he was quick to absolve the young signing.
He said: “No, I explained, I was with you and I think I was quite logical in everything I said. There is too much hate and too much envy. A player who was born in 2002, plays in the Premier League and you criticise him. I don’t get the first goal anymore, because the left-back should have come out, whatever, it doesn’t matter.
“On the second goal, the only logical position for all the players is his, covering the centre axis of the goal. The rest of the players, if you look at the phase… He’s trying to play it all the way through, the rest have stopped.”
On Fulham’s first goal, there is a feeling that had Dragusin done anything, it would have ended in a similar outcome.
Stoichita said: “At the risk of an own goal, you throw yourself at the ball to put it in the goal. Those who don’t know football have made him a scapegoat.”
Dragusin was making his first start for Tottenham since signing from Genoa in January, and there were a lot of eyes on him.
However, he was one of the better performers, if there were any, in that defeat, with his spot in Ange Posteocoglou’s plans unlikely to change much going forward, that being a backup to both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven when the duo are fit.
