Middlesbrough could offer Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jeremy Sarmiento an escape route in the winter market, according to Olé.
Brighton have sent him out on loan since 2023. After spells at West Bromwich Albion, Ipswich Town and Burnley, the Seagulls let him join Cremonese in the summer.
The winger has played 137 minutes from seven matches this season, without managing a goal or an assist. Despite the restricted role, he hinted in November that a permanent move to the Serie A side is a possibility.
Sarmiento hasn’t made an appearance since November’s international break. It’s clear that he’s not part of their plans and his situation is unlikely to improve.
Olé say the January window is his ‘last attempt’ to find a new club to enjoy regular game time. The Ecuador international needs regular playing time to maintain hope of making it to the World Cup.
He’s desperate to find a club where he can feature regularly. The player can leave Cremonese, and Brighton could send him on loan elsewhere in January.
Sarmiento has been linked to Liga de Quito, but Olé state the operation isn’t financially feasible for them. A move to Brazil could be an option as a few clubs have expressed their interest.
The newspaper claims Middlesbrough want the Brighton owned player in this window.
Kim Hellberg’s side are looking to improve their attack and have identified Sarmiento as a target. They add a possible move to Boro has started ‘gaining traction’ in the past few days.
There could be developments if the Championship side decide to make concrete advances.
