As always, if something slips through the cracks, we’ll put our hands up and take the blame, and that’s what we’re doing, having missed a tidbit of information for Manchester United fans over the weekend.
The news comes from Italy, and no, don’t worry, it doesn’t involve Matteo Darmian.
The player at the centre of this is Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, who has been linked with the Red Devils in the past.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira, José Mourinho is ‘really interested’ in the Serbian defender, who is currently in his second season with the Serie A side, and impressing greatly.
So much so, in fact, that he sent a scout to go watch the 21-year-old on Sunday in his game against Sassuolo, which ended 3-3, with Milenkovic getting sent off.
Not exactly the ideal game to impress scouts with, but that doesn’t stop the fact the talent is there, and Fiorentina are very aware of it.
Schira explains that Andrea Della Valle, the Serie A side’s director of football, would require around €50m to see his starlet go, which is a figure we’ve seen time and time before during previous rumours.
It’s a lot of money, but defenders who can play both at centre-back and right-back don’t tend to be cheap these days.
