Raphael Varane’s departure from Real Madrid has been speculated since he joined the club in 2011. The player has never been guaranteed a regular place in the starting eleven, and due to being well thought of by several European clubs, his exit is rumoured in every transfer window.
Marca had an article on Thursday in which they talked about the player’s situation. The newspaper took claims from L’Equipe, which said that Zinedine Zidane had a chat with Varane to show him the club’s desire to keep him in the squad, and then they gave a few more details on the matter.
According to Marca, Varane had expectations to have a place in the defensive duo last season, but it didn’t happen and he played less minutes than Pepe and Sergio Ramos. His dissatisfaction is well known by the club and the manager, but they insist he will have a place soon.
The 23-year-old’s latest offer is reportedly from Bayern Munich, as Carlo Ancelotti is said to be a big fan of him. Marca says, just like they did two weeks ago, that Manchester United wait for the player “with open arms”.
After five years on the bench, Varane is still considered one of the best young defenders in the world and it’s obvious he would be linked to big clubs who are after a player of his position.
Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford makes these rumours sound more likely, but in the end, it seems the decision is up to the player, and he needs to choose if he believes in Zidane’s words or not.
