Jose Mourinho has made some big signings at Manchester United this summer, but reports in Spain suggest he may not be done yet. After claims in England of Mourinho needing to sell before he buys, the Raphael Varane rumours has been reignited.
The Manchester United boss has already splashed the cash on Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Paul Pogba, but it seems Mourinho wants another big name signing.
According to AS in their Saturday edition, Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion with Real Madrid’s Varane.
AS say Varane is the new priority of Jose Mourinho, who wants to make a last ditch effort to sign the Frenchman after failing to sign him earlier this summer. However, the Spanish newspaper admit a move for Varane is very unlikely, as Real Madrid don’t want to sell him and Manchester United need to sell few players to buy him.
In their online version of the article, AS state a €30m failed approach has already been made, although the newspaper don’t make it crystal clear if that’s from Manchester United, although that seems to be the case.
Varane is the third choice centre back at Real Madrid behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe, but has spoken to Zidane recently about his future and wants to stay at the club.
The only reason Madrid would consider to sell Varane would be his patchy injury and fitness record, which in turn should also be a concern for Manchester United.
A Varane to Manchester United story is loved in the Spanish media, largely so they can then wheel out another story, a day later, saying the Frenchman has turned Mourinho down, as Marca did on July 21st.
