AC Milan could wrap up a deal for Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah on Monday or Tuesday as they’re boosted by Lucas Paqueta’s sale to West Ham.

That’s according to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, who says the Chelsea man is one of two candidates being looked at to bolster Milan’s defence.

Earlier today we covered how Milan remained keen on Chalobah and could be boosted by Paqueta’s move to West Ham from Lyon, with the Italian side retaining a 15% future sale clause on their former player which is set to pocket them at least €6m.

That’s will give them extra liquidity to push for the extra signings they want at the end of the transfer window and a move for Chalobah is being eyed up.

So far Chelsea, and specifically Thomas Tuchel, have refused to let him go but would be open to a deal if they can finalise a move for Leicester’s Wesley Fofana.

That move is rapidly approaching a positive conclusion for the Blues after they managed to finally strike a deal with the Foxes and according to Pellegatti, that’s opened up an opportunity for Milan to get Chalobah next week.

“Monday, Tuesday at the latest, should be the day of the central defender,” Milan News report him saying.

“Then we will think about the midfielder. There are two candidates. Trevoh Chalobah, class ’99, born in the Chelsea youth academy, 1.90 metres in stature.

“He can also play in midfield, but AC Milan take him as a central defender. Chelsea can let him loose because they took Fofana from Leicester.

“Leipzig would also like Chalobah, not to be forgotten. The price is not a concern because the Blues want a loan, and Milan really like that, maybe onerous.

“Since yesterday, Milan also has 5 or 6 million more for the sale of Paqueta to West Ham from Lyon. The alternative is Malick Thiaw, a Schalke 04 player, German from 2001. A good defender, but the calibre and quality of Chalobah changes a lot.”
