Earlier this month, we covered claims from Spain that Aston Villa don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to sign Real Betis’ Jesús Rodríguez.
The latest claims from the UK have stated the Villans have made contact with the La Liga club for the 19-year-old.
On Friday, ABC Sevilla stated Real Betis are calm about Aston Villa’s interest in the winger and would need ‘off market offer’ to consider selling him.
Saturday’s editions of Mundo Deportivo, Marca and AS have reports on the Premier League club’s interest in Rodríguez.
Manuel Pellegrini promoted him to the first team in October, and he managed three goals and two assists from 32 games. The attacker is currently with Spain U21s at the ongoing U21 Euros.
Mundo state Unai Emery’s side have initiated talks with Real Betis over a move for the youngster.
Marca’s title says: ‘Aston Villa is coming for Jesús Rodríguez’.
Within the report, they back up Mundo’s claim and add that the English club tried to find out from Real Betis the terms to sign him. Rodríguez’s priority is to continue where he is and has told his agent to assess any offers after U21 Euros.
Real Betis’ desire is to retain the player but know that they will have to consider if a bid is convincing. Marca state his release clause can reach up to €50m and this is the ‘starting point for negotiations with Aston Villa’.
AS state Monchi ‘wants to take’ the Spaniard to Villa Park this summer as he’s identified him as an option to improve their attack.
Rodríguez’s contract is until 2029 and has a €35m release clause. AS state if there’s an offer and Real Betis were to improve his salary, his clause will rise to €50m.
To sum it up, Monchi seems to be leading Aston Villa’s efforts to sign the attacker, and Real Betis can start negotiations from €50m.
