Sunderland came close to securing Sassuolo forward Armand Laurienté’s services in the summer window. The move collapsed despite the Premier League club making strong advances.

Régis Le Bris previously worked with him at Stade Rennais. Laurienté’s agent Roberto Meloni earlier said the Black Cats manager was keen on reuniting with his client.

Back in July, US Sassuolo general director Giovanni Carnevali had pinned the blame on the 26-year-old’s agent for Sunderland’s failure to sign him.

The Frenchman wasn’t able to find a new club this summer.  TuttoMercatoWeb now cover his failed move to Sunderland and his current status at the Serie A side.

TMW say he’s one of the ‘most valuable players’ for Sassuolo. The forward managed a goal and an assist in his side’s 3-1 league win over Udinese at the weekend.

Laurienté was close to joining Le Bris’ side, after they reached an agreement with the Italian club and travelled to Portugal to carry out medical tests with Sunderland.

Although the move was advanced, it didn’t go through and according to the report, a ‘misunderstand regarding the aspects of the contract ruined everything’.

TMW claim this pleased Sassuolo manager Fabio Grosso as he can rely upon Laurienté as an ‘additional weapon’ this season.
