Mino Raiola pushed Paul Pogba’s future back into the media spotlight last week, predicting talks with Manchester United, but also making sure he dropped some Juventus hints at the same time.
When asked about the possibility of a return to the Serie A side, Raiola said, relayed by Corriere dello Sport: “Pogba’s contract expires next year. We’ll talk with Manchester United and we’ll see. Of course, Turin stayed in his heart and he cares a lot about these things. The possibility of him coming back is there, but it also depends on Juve.”
And it’s the ‘depends on Juve’ which would appear to be the big issue, at least as far as TMW are concerned.
Having realised their mistakes of signing free agents on big deals, with limited sell-on value, it’s thought they won’t want to do the same with Pogba. The Manchester United player turns 29-years-of-age in March, so there’d be little chance of a big sell-on opportunity down the road.
Their sporting director Federico Cherubini, is quoted as recently saying they were moving away from signing older players: “On the market we will look for players like Haaland before the final maturity. Any investment will go in the direction of a young profile. I plan to bet on another type of player.”
That would make a renewal for Manchester United sound a little easier, and is perhaps why there’s been recent attempts to drag Barcelona into the story.
