KV Mechelen midfielder Aster Vranckx dreams of a big move to Chelsea or Real Madrid in the future.
That’s what Het Laatste Nieuws are reporting on Thursday, a day after VfL Wolfsburg and the Belgian side reached an agreement for his arrival next summer. He has signed a contract until 2025 with the German club.
Manchester City, AC Milan and Juventus also showed interest in the 18-year-old, but he wasn’t in favour of joining any of them at this stage of his career.
The Belgium U19 international was promoted to Mechelen’s first team in 2019 after coming through the ranks of their academy. Since the start of last season, he has scored three goals and registered three assists in 19 league appearances.
His performances caught the attention of Manchester City and the two Italian clubs.
Mechelen will earn €8m from the teenager’s sale to the Bundesliga side, and he believes the deal is a “win-win situation for all parties”.
Peter Verplancke, the player’s agent, admitted Vranckx decided against joining a top club like City, Juve or Milan.
“We quickly had the feeling that Wolfsburg really wanted Aster. This feels good. This is the right step for him,” Verplancke was quoted as saying by HLN.
“Top European clubs [Juventus, AC Milan and Manchester City] were also interested. But Aster did not want that. ‘I am not going to such a club now’ he told me. That is what typifies him. Aster is a smart guy who doesn’t want to skip a step. Mentally he is strong. He can become a winner.”
Vranckx also detailed why he picked Wolfsburg over other clubs.
“I didn’t just want to be a bargain of a European superpower. Wolfsburg really have a plan for me. Whether this is not too big a step? I believe in my qualities and am ambitious. Next season I want to play there as soon as possible,” he said.
According to the report, Wolfsburg are a stepping stone to join a big club like the Blues or the La Liga winners. HLN adds ‘he dreams of Chelsea or Real Madrid’.
Vranckx’s dream clubs could come in for him in the future if he manages to showcase his qualities at Wolfsburg.
