Unfortunately, and we’re terrible sorry about this, but the links sending Sergej Milinković-Savić to Manchester United have started up again.
Blame Gazzetta dello Sport for that, we certainly do, and they’ve unfortunately spread like wildfire, because they garner clicks and sell newspapers.
Take Calciomerato, for example.
They don’t even have to try, simply giving us a four line article claiming Milinković-Savić is ‘heading towards goodbye’, with his ‘future far from Lazio’.
Not only that, but the complete midfielder is ‘top of the list of the desired at Manchester United’, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also after him.
It’s easy enough to put together, and it’s not helped by people like Antonio Cassano, who during a chat with Bobo TV, relayed by LazioNews24, said: “He could also play in a top club, like Manchester United or Liverpool. At Real Madrid in Modrić’s spot? They’re looking at different players and they have Valverde. Obviously, going up a step, he will have to confirm, but he deserves a great opportunity”.
Right now, there’s little concrete information going around suggesting Milinković-Savić really is someone Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants, but that has never stopped Italian websites in the past, and certainly won’t now.
The past has taught us the Serbian midfielder was only considered as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who remains at Old Trafford to this day.
That could certainly change in the near future if he doesn’t renew his contract, but until we get a clearer picture of Manchester United’s intentions, we’d recommend taking all this with a pinch of salt for now.
