Norwich City returned to the Premier League this campaign after finishing top of last season’s Championship table and they did so by losing only six of their 46 matches.

This term, the Canaries have already lost three of their opening five matches, but they sealed a 3-2 win over Manchester City last weekend. Prior to their tie against the Etihad club, many had predicted they could suffer against the English champions.

And it wasn’t just football fans and pundits, as Norwich’s Alexander Tettey revealed even the players at Carrow Road were worried about being on the wrong end of a rout.

“Nobody had faith in us. Even the players said, ‘Eurgh, today we have to be on top just to get a draw, or to avoid being humiliated’. And then we lead 3–1 for a period against Man City. It’s not like they played with a bad team… and we had ten players out. I have no words,” the 33-year-old told Norwegian outlet VG.

After the tie, there were several comparisons between the squads of the two clubs and the midfielder gave an insight on Norwich’s recruitment policy.

“All of their players individually cost more than our entire team. That’s how the club wants it, and it seems like it works. You will always find good players that don’t cost money, who can then be developed. It’s crazy. It’s totally crazy. But that’s the way to do it,” he said.

Daniel Farke has stuck to the same playing style in the Premier League that gave Norwich success last term and the player stressed the German coach is unlikely to change anytime soon.

“The boss would rather us lose while playing our type of football than winning with another one,” Tettey concluded.
