Over the past couple of weeks, the Italian media have been pushing the idea that Maxime Gonalons could be heading to the Premier League just one year after his move from Lyon to Roma.
The 29-year-old never managed to convince in Italy, and with the Serie A side looking to sign Steven Nzonzi from Sevilla, his sale would go a long way towards helping them.
Crystal Palace, Everton and most recently West Ham were all claimed to have made offers for the defensive midfielder, but we hadn’t heard anything else about them, until now.
According to Il Tempo on Tuesday, Gonalons has rejected the Eagles, the Toffees and the Hammers, seemingly making it clear he isn’t interested in a move to the Premier League.
This, of course, is a kick in the teeth for Roma, who saw Premier League money as the easy way out, but they continue to try and push the former Lyon captain towards an exit, preferably as quickly as possible.
With just a couple of full days left in the English transfer window, it remains to be seen if Roy Hodgson, Marco Silva and Manuel Pellegrini will want to make a last ditch attempt to get their man, but our guess is they’ll move on to other, keener targets.
