Beşiktaş midfielder Josef de Souza recently called Everton striker Cenk Tosun in an effort to convince him to return to his former club.

That’s according to Fotomac, who say Beşiktaş are keen to ‘buy a local striker’ this season and want to add Tosun to their squad once again.

Tosun is something of an icon at the Turkish club after a goal-laden spell there before moving to Everton in 2018.

His time on Merseyside has not been a happy one, though, and he returned to Besiktas on loan at the end of the January transfer window last year.

That move started brightly, but a serious knee injury meant his second spell with the Super Lig side was a short-lived one.

He’s since returned from that injury but has barely featured for Everton this season, leading to reports he could head back to his homeland for a third time.

That idea is something the player himself has pretty much ruled out, with him making it clear he intends to see out his contract at Goodison Park and choose a new club in the summer.

That should have ruled Besiktas out, but it seems they’re still making efforts and Fanatik report that de Souza ‘made a call’ to Tosun after their recent game in the Super Cup.

The nature of the call isn’t made clear, but it was presumably to try and convince him into a transfer this month as the website make it clear de Souza has previous in this regard.

He played a ‘big role’ in convincing Alex Teixeira to move to Besiktas, and it seems he’s hoping to repeat the trick with Tosun.
