This month, we covered several stories from Brazil which said West Ham had been in talks for Flamengo midfielder Lazaro. At one point, it was even claimed the Hammers offered £5m to sign the player.
The local media had already claimed that the Rio de Janeiro side weren’t impressed with that bid, and today, it’s reported that the 20-year-old is actually going somewhere else.
Globo Esporte reports that Flamengo are about to sell Lazaro to Almeria. The Spanish side are paying €7m for the signing, and the Brazilian club will keep 30% of a future sale. The final details are being discussed and the talks are said to be ‘well advanced’.
The outlet then points out that the midfielder had been a target for other European clubs, and that’s where West Ham are brought in.
It’s claimed that when the Hammers offered £5m for the signing, Flamengo asked for double. That’s why the negotiations ‘did not go ahead’.
West Ham went for other targets, and ended up signing a former player from the red and black club. That’s Lucas Paquetá, who moved from Lyon in a much bigger deal.
