Each Monday French newspaper L’Equipe have a small feature where they look at how French players are doing around the world. It’s a quick way for fans of the French national team to see who is doing well and who isn’t.
One of the players in the red zone this week is Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The national team is hugely important to Cabaye, so much so that the player left PSG for Crystal Palace, in order to be a much more prominent player.
That seemed to work for Cabaye and he went to Euro 2016, but L’Equipe point out he didn’t start for Palace against West Ham, and whilst they also point out there was an injury issue last month, there’s clearly a worry that Alan Pardew may not be relying on the player as much going forward.
Cabaye was an unused substitute in France’s last two international matches, and he’s hardly going to be able to impress Didier Deschamps by sitting on Crystal Palace’s bench.
At 30 years of age, and now Euro 2016 has been and gone, maybe Cabaye won’t be as concerned about French doubts about his international place, but if he is, then Pardew and the player may need a chat.
