Andre Gomes didn’t manage to have the impact at Everton which many hoped for after his move to the club. Of course, that injury will have played a large part in the outcome and there’s a lsight what may have been aspect to it all.

His contract at Everton ran out at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and the Portuguese midfielder has been a free agent since.

He has now finally found a new destination and it is a rather familiar one for the ex-Toffee, who will return to Lille.

L’Equipe report that Lille wanted to sign a midfielder due to an injury crisis in the heart of the park and the choice for Gomes has now been made.

The expectation is that the 31-year-old will sign a two-year deal soon but he will first have to complete his medical on Friday morning (today).

In his loan stint at Lille in the 2022/23 season, Gomes played 26 games and also had three goals to his name. Game time at Everton last season was cut short due to fitness issues, as he played only 12 times in the Premier League.
