Newcastle United and Manchester United are in the picture to sign Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.

On February 25th, AS reported the Red Devils are on the lookout for the 20-year-old. It was also stated the Magpies‘ scouts have followed him.

The midfielder has eight goals and three assists this season and his displays have ‘aroused interest’ from Newcastle and Manchester United.

That’s according to El Desmarque, who also state Real Madrid are in the picture to sign the Spain U21 international.

With interest from elsewhere, Celta are aware the player can change clubs in the summer, if one of the Premier League duo or Los Blancos were to activate his €40m clause.

His employer hope to retain him beyond this season. Veiga’s wish is to continue but his mind could be changed with a ‘stratospheric offer’.

Therefore, Celta’s idea is to negotiate a new contract and increase the release clause.

With Newcastle, Manchester United and Real Madrid among Veiga’s suitors, Celta vice-president Ricardo Barros was quizzed about his future.

“…you already know that Celta is a youth team, they are youth players, with which we feel very proud. [Veiga] is a boy who was already pointing out ways and I think he is going to have a very important future,” Barros told Movistar, relayed by ElDesmarque.

Barros also stated he isn’t surprised top clubs have sent their scouts to follow Veiga. The chief added; “He is a Celta player and has a contract with Celta.”
