Middlesbrough striker Alvaro Negredo has been speaking to Spanish radio channel Onda Cero ahead of the Champions League match tonight between Manchester City and Barcelona.
The Spaniard spent the 2013/14 at the Etihad scoring 23 goals in all competitions, as Manchester City won the Premier League and League Cup.
Currently playing at Middlesbrough on loan from Valencia, Negredo was asked about his former teammate Sergio Aguero, to which he replied: “Kun is one of the best in the world.”
Negredo also pointed out to the Spanish radio station that English clubs struggle in the Champions League.
The Middlesbrough player said: “Not only Manchester City, all English clubs struggle to make it beyond the group stages, and usually don’t reach the final.”
Negredo’s comments may be a little unfair. Last season only Manchester United out of four English teams failed to get through their group. The year before, only Liverpool failed to qualify.
As it stands, Arsenal and Leicester City top their Champions League groups, with Manchester City and Tottenham in second.
Maybe Alvaro Negredo should concentrate on Middlesbrough.
