Middlesbrough goalkeeper Seny Dieng hasn’t made an appearance this season and settled for minutes with their U21s.
Kim Hellberg arrived at the Riverside Stadium in November, and the manager also didn’t consider the 31-year-old.
This convinced the Middlesbrough player to look for a way out in the winter market. A move to Hull City collapsed at the start of last month and Feyenoord came forward on deadline day.
On Monday, Fr12.nl explained Feyenoord were well placed to find an agreement with Middlesbrough.
The winter market in the UK closed yesterday while the Netherlands one is still open until Tuesday. The Eredivisie side can still sign but the Middlesbrough man, but he won’t join them.
That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who report the Swiss-born Senegal international’s move has collapsed.
Robin van Persie’s side were hoping to sign him on loan until the end of the season. AD state the deal didn’t go through after the Championship club ‘pulled the plug’.
According to the newspaper, the two clubs failed to find a full agreement for Dieng’s loan transfer.
Voetbal International are also reporting the Dutch club wanted to sign the former Queens Park Rangers man on loan. The player was ‘already on his way to Rotterdam’ to carry out medical tests with Feyenoord.
This is a clear indication the operation was at an advanced stage before Hellberg’s side called it off. VI claim Middlesbrough have recalled the goalkeeper after failing to find an agreement with the Dutch club.
Therefore, Dieng won’t be moving to the Netherlands and will finish the season with the English club.
Feyenoord have sold Justin Bijlow to Genoa last month and have been looking for a new stopper. Their plan was to sign Dieng but Middlesbrough’s decision to pull the plug will certainly disappoint Van Persie’s side.
