Middlesbrough are in the picture to sign IF Elfsborg’s Jalal Abdullai in the winter market. That’s at least what Expressen are reporting, relayed by Fotbollskanalen.
Back in March, the Swedish club allowed the 20-year-old to join Molde FK on a loan deal with an option to buy.
The striker has scored nine goals and contributed one assist in 1000+ minutes from 24 matches this year. Middlesbrough have taken note of his performances.
Molde sporting director Ole Jakob Valla Strandhagen earlier told Fotbollskanalen of their desire to make his stay permanent.
“We are in dialogue with Elfsborg, otherwise I have no comment,” he said.
Expressen now state the Ghanian will return to his parent club, who will have to make a decision over his future. That’s because there are several clubs, including Boro, interested in the frontman.
FC Midtjylland, FC Copenhagen, KRC Genk, Anderlecht and Preston North End are named as interested parties.
The report adds Kim Hellberg’s side have asked about the player. It’s not clear whether Middlesbrough contacted Elfsborg, Abdullai’s agent or both. Boro’s Swedish manager may be leading their transfer pursuit.
Middlesbrough are in tussle with several clubs to secure Abdullai’s services, likely in January.
