For the past few days, several websites from Mexico have been claiming that Monterrey defender César Montes could be on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The reason for it is a story from Marca which reported Wolves interest in the 23-year-old. However, there’s overexcitement in the articles which are covering it.
The original report was actually about Sevilla’s interest in César Montes. They’re expected to battle La Liga rivals Valencia for the signing of the Mexican player.
At the end of the story, Marca wrote that Wolves are another club who are interested in the defender. And that was enough to start all of this.
The Mexican media has been giving Wolves some huge attention since Raúl Jiménez joined the club a couple of years ago, so having another one of their players there would be quite a big thing.
That’s why website Nación Deportes, like many others, has a headline saying ‘Player from Rayados could be Raúl Jiménez’s teammate at Wolves’.
With several stories like this out there, we must stick to the fact that Marca only reported Wolves interest, with no claims of negotiations or bids from the Premier League side so far.
