Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks for the signing of Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to reports.

The news comes from the French media, where outlet Media Foot writes that agent Jorge Mendes has ‘intensified’ the talks with two clubs, with those being Wolves and Atletico Madrid.

The reason why the website is after this information is because Ugarte had been linked to a move to Paris Saint Germain over the past few months.

That possibility, however, is said to be ‘moving away’ with Atletico Madrid and Wolves getting interested in the player.

Media Foot points out that Jorge Mendes is ‘very close’ to those clubs, and the ‘privileged’ contacts they have with him could benefit them in the race for the player.

For now, there’s no information on how much it would take to sign Ugarte from Sporting in the January transfer window.

The player is currently valued by Transfermakrt at €18m, but since we all know how good negotiators Portuguese clubs are, it sounds very unlikely he could leave them for that little in the middle of the season.
