Wolverhampton Wanderers’ special relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes could see them make a move for Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes this summer.

That’s according to Plaza Deportiva, who say that Wolves are ‘assessing’ whether to sign the Portuguese star.

The newspaper explains that Valencia are keen to sell Guedes this summer and the club’s owners, Meriton, are in a rush to find a suitor.

His agent, Mendes, ‘is making moves’ in the Premier League, and that has obviously brought Wolves into the mix.

Guo Guangchang, Wolves owner, owns 20% of Gestifute through the Shanghai-based company Foyo and that ‘bond and relationship’ can facilitate a move to Molineux for Guedes.

It’s felt at the Spanish club that the Premier League is the market that ‘could take on a transfer’ of the magnitude that Valencia are seeking for Guedes.

If Wolves are to get Guedes, though, they may have to move quickly, with Villarreal pushing to try and secure him.

Plaza explain they are considering making an opening offer of €10m plus striker Paco Alcácer as president Fernando Roig tries to improve their squad for the Champions League.

At the moment, such a deal is unlikely as Meriton want to make money from a sale, so Villarreal would have to propose another player or increase the amount offered.

The Europa League champions believe that they can convince Anil Murthy, though, despite them currently looking for as much as €25m to cover a hole in their finances.

They can offer European football that Wolves cannot, so the latter may need to use that special relationship with Mendes to their full advantage if they wish to win the race.
