Mason Greenwood is on the front page of Friday’s edition of Record.
The reason for that is Benfica are reportedly taking steps to sign the player. After a season on loan at Getafe, which went well but not quite as spectacularly as sone would have it, the 22-year-old has been linked with multiple clubs.
Those links haven’t turned into anything serious at this stage, yet it appears Benfica are genuinely taking steps to sign the Manchester United player.
According to Record’s report, Rui Pedro Braz, a former journalist who is now the Lisbon side’s sporting director, has travelled to Madrid to speak with Greenwood and his father and inform them Benfica are keen.
Benfica want a bargain, looking for a ‘restrained investment’, and Record say the Manchester United player is valued at €15m.
Towards the end of the report it’s stated Benfica aren’t keen to tie up this potential transfer with another, so they wouldn’t want to take Greenwood as part payment for Joao Neves, for example.
However, that is surely their likeliest route to a deal and would be an interesting proposition for Manchester United.
