On Tuesday evening, we relayed claims from L’Equipe that Rennes were in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Sunderland regarding a possible loan for Wahbi Khazri.
Things looked even better for the Black Cats when the same newspaper, this time in their print edition, revealed the Ligue 1 side had confirmed to them that they were confident of being able to get a deal done for the Tunisia international.
Well, a bit later on in the day, some more good news came through as Telegramme Sport journalist David Thomas reported on Twitter that the 26-year-old had passed his medical ahead of the proposed loan move.

This means that Tuesday’s reports from Turkey regarding a possible move to Alanyaspor are now out of the window, and that Khazri looks on the verge of returning to Ligue 1, at least for a year.
Signing from Bordeaux in February 2016 in what looked like a rather promising deal, the attacking midfielder has since made 42 appearances for Sunderland, scoring three goals and picking up two assists.
