For some time, Marca have been reporting serious Real Madrid interest in Lyon’s Ferland Mendy, with it being made clear a summer transfer was on the cards.

There had been claims of a medical on Tuesday, but the deal wasn’t far enough along for that to happen.

Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe believes the tests will now be held at Clairefontaine, with a ‘medical this morning’, and the fullback can then sign his five year contract with Real Madrid.

Lyon had earlier denied the presence of an agreement with the Spanish club, but L’Equipe explain it’s only down to percentages on certain aspects of the deal, and the good relationship between Jean-Michel Aulas and Florentino Perez should mean there’s no problems in getting everything finalised quickly.

The French newspaper believes Madrid are paying €48m for the player, plus a further €5m in potential bonus payments.

For the Ligue 1 side it’s an ‘unexpected’ amount for the player this summer, as he hadn’t been one of those earmarked for sale.

Over in Spain, Marca are of course on the trail too.

They say the transfer fee will be around €50m, and Mendy will sign a six year contract.

A transfer could even be announced as quickly as today.
