After the confirmation from Saint-Étienne board members and manager that Jordan Veretout is going to be arriving on loan from Aston Villa for the coming season, a second loan is on its way.
As was expected, after failed negotiations with Marseille, Newcastle’s Henri Saivet will also be joining the Ligue 1 club on loan, but this time with an option to buy.
According to France Football, the player is expected to arrive in France on Tuesday to pass a medical ahead of the proposed move, which is a year-long loan with a buyout clause set to be at €6.7m (£5.8m).
This deal had been in the pipeline for a few weeks, despite Saint-Étienne’s manager, Christophe Galtier, expressing some doubts regarding the midfielder’s fitness since he barely played for Newcastle following his move from Bordeaux.
The 25-year-old only made eight appearances for the now-Championship club after signing for £5.1m, meaning he cost Newcastle £637k/appearance.
Then again, if all goes well, they get all their money back and a bit more from the buyout clause.
