Newcastle United star Miguel Álmiron has been praised by his former manager Tata Martino, who says it was a “matter of time” before he started shining in the Premier League.

Álmiron has been the undisputed star of the show for Newcastle this season, with ten goals and one assist in 22 Premier League games this season.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for the Paraguayan forward, who had struggled to show the best version of himself since arriving from Atlanta in January 2019.

That has been turned around under Eddie Howe’s leadership, with Álmiron currently boasting a record of 11 goals and three assists in 49 games for him, a much more favourable tally than the 13 goals and five assists he had under former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce.

It’s been an impressive improvement, to say the least, but another of his former managers, Martino, says that it was only a matter of time before the 29-year-old started shining at St James Park.

“It was a matter of time,” he told La Nacion.

“This began to happen I think when the team changed ownership and important players arrived, he went from fighting relegation to a place in the UEFA mix, that helped him a lot and also the national team.

“He is competing against the best players in the world, one Sunday against Liverpool and days later against Manchester City or United. That’s very important.”
