Aston Villa are pushing hard to sign Atlético Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri this summer.
Lucas Digne was first choice left-back for Unai Emery and he’s on his way to Paris Saint-Germain.
His impending exit will see Aston Villa look for a new left-back and they are focusing on Ruggeri.
Aston Villa latest to join race
That’s according to Marca, and their title says the Premier League side are chasing the Italy international.
Last summer, he joined the La Liga side from Atalanta and made 47 appearances in his debut season, even managing seven assists.
Despite this, Los Rojiblancos made Matteo Ruggeri available in the market in June, and he could be on his way out. Alejandro Grimaldo will be first choice for Diego Simeone next season and centre-back Dávid Hancko can provide cover.
Rugerri has attracted interest from a few clubs and Aston Villa are the latest to join the race. In fact, Unai Emery’s side want to sign the fullback immediately.
Villans working on rapid deal

Earlier today, he was on a stationary bike watching his teammates prepare for training. The newspaper says this is clear evidence he will leave, even though the player is yet to respond to Aston Villa’s offer.

With Aston Villa pushing hard and the Madrid club open to his sale, the two clubs are now waiting for his final decision. If he rejects the Villans, the Italian will have to look for another club, as he doesn’t have a future at Atlético.
