West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes is a target for Paris Saint-Germain as Luis Campos continues to target Portuguese talent for the Parisians.
Foot Mercato report that PSG have already started contacts for the 21-year-ol West Ham star about a potential move this summer.
PSG love for Portuguese talent
The website explains that since Luis Campos took over at PSG, the Portuguese director has shown a penchant for recruiting his compatriots.
Vitinha, Gonçalo Ramos, João Neves, and Nuno Mendes are prime examples of his transfer strategy in action. And, according to FM’s information, he is targeting another Portuguese player in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.
In fact, their interest has now progressed to the point that contact has been established between the two parties.
The 21-year-old midfielder is considered a rising star, having impressed at West Ham this season since joining from Southampton last summer. He’s established himself as a key player for the Hammers since that €44m move.
Agent links
Foot Mercato make no mention of what PSG would be willing to pay for the West Ham star this summer. But there could be one factor in their favour: their relationship with Gestifute.
They currently represent Mateus Fernandes as well as several PSG stars. Vitinha, João Neves, Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Gonçalo Ramos are all under their banner.
That means the Portuguese agency have a strong relationship with the French giants. And would, presumably, be more than happy to add another client to the list.
West Ham will surely block any deal, though. Fernandes has impressed since the summer and particularly under Nuno Espirito Santo. Any deal will surely rest on their Premier League status, though.
If the Hammers do avoid the drop, they’ll be able to resist any offers. Relegation, though, could force a fire sale that PSG can take advantage of. That is perhaps why they have started talks now, setting the groundwork up for a potential move this summer.
