Brighton & Hove Albion fans got involved in some trouble with Olympique Marseille supporters in France, the local media reports.

Outlet La Provence writes that ‘clashes’ took place in Marseille’s city centre on Wednesday evening.

It’s said Brighton and Marseille fans ‘arranged to meet’ at the Cours Julien, and 200 to 300 supporters faced each other.

Videos on social media have been showing the groups chasing each other before the police arrived with tear gas granades to disperse them.

According to La Provence, there have been no injuries and no arrests, despite the ‘projectiles’ thrown during the evening. It’s said the police had a special scheme to intervene.

The outlet also writes that shortly after midnight, all fans were back to their accommodation, and no further trouble was seen.

The French media has been highlighting that Marseille fans are planning a huge reception for the team tonight, as a win is crucial for their qualification to Europa League’s knock-out stage.

On the other hand, La Provence now features a story highlighting the party made by Brighton fans on their way to the stadium, claiming there’s a ‘soft, festive and peaceful’ atmosphere among them.

They say that after the clashes last night the mood today is a much better one, with security ‘reinforced’ to ensure there is no further issues before tonight’s game.
