Newcastle United host Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, before travelling to France to face Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Ligue 1 side take on OGC Nice on Friday prior to the match against Newcastle United.

Marseille shared an update on their website about five players who are ‘currently being treated’.

Amir Murillo and Hamed Traorè are both being treated for thigh injuries and Facundo Medina for a sprained ankle. Amine Gouiri underwent surgery for a dislocated shoulder.

Nayef Aguerd is included in the list as he’s sidelined with pubalgia. They state: ‘A specific treatment plan has been implemented to limit the symptoms and support a gradual return to play.’

L’Equipe cover more on the 29-year-old’s injury. They report he will miss tomorrow’s league fixture against Nice.

There’s concern over the centre-back’s involvement against Newcastle United. L’Equipe report the Morocco international currently has to rest or undergo surgery.

It’s claimed the latter ‘seems impossible’ considering Marseille’s fixtures and AFCON in December. The French club also indicated via their latest statement that surgery seems unlikely.

Either way, it’s unclear whether the customised plan can help him be fit on time to face the Magpies. Roberto De Zerbi will have to make a decision on whether Aguerd is fit enough to be included in the squad.
