Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch contacted RB Salzburg defender Max Wöber ‘just before Christmas’ to convince the player into the move to Elland Road.
That’s according to journalist Peter Linden, who says the player is keen on the move to England after falling down the pecking order at the Austrian club.
Leeds have been linked with a move for Wöber over the last day or so, with several reports indicating they are pushing to sign the 24-year-old in January.
A deal is very much in the pipeline and Linden confirms as much in his coverage of the developing situation today.
He says that Leeds are ‘likely’ to pay around €15m for Wöber and make him the third player to move between the two clubs this season after Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen already made the switch in the summer.
According to his information, Marsh contacted Wöber ‘just before Christmas’ to discuss a potential move to Elland Road.
Rather than giving his answer straight away, Wöber took a ‘short period of consideration’ before he ‘signalled his willingness’ to make the move and reunite with his former manager.
That decision is seen as ‘quite understandable’ because Wöber has found himself sliding down the pecking order under manager Matthias Jaissle this season.
He had lost his place as a centre back to Strahinja Pavlovic and had found himself playing as a left-back; something he is seemingly less than happy about.
Marsch is therefore taking his opportunity to bring him to Leeds and a deal now appears to be advancing ahead of the January transfer window.
