Tottenham Hotspur have been repeatedly linked with Marcus Edwards since not long after he left the club in 2019.
In the move which took the attacker to Vitória de Guimarães, Spurs kept 50% of a future transfer fee, essentially giving them the ability to buy him back for half-price if they wanted to.
Edwards moved to Sporting in January 2022, and if Tottenham had insisted on cashing in their 50% at that time it would have been a much more difficult deal for the Lisbon side to complete.
Instead, it was agreed the 50% would continue for the new contract with Vitória de Guimarães.
There’s been repeat articles about Spurs being keen on the pair, and repeat insistence release clauses will have to be met for January exits.
Record cover the interest again today, and insist Sporting manager Ruben Amorim isn’t fearful of the market.
The manager is quoted as saying: “We are not as attractive a league as others and we cannot pay the same wages. This is a problem, even in relation to Portuguese clubs we have this difficulty.
“As was said, they only leave for the clause. We are ready. We know the amount of attacks that go through Porro and Edwards, nobody is blind here. But the market is what it is.”
