There’s plenty of time left in the transfer window for big deals to happen, and plenty of time after that for people to argue about what the best deals were.

For Italian journalist Ricky Buscaglia there’s one which already stands out against others, and that’s Juventus signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

The transfer was seen as brilliant business by the Italian media as soon as it was rumoured, with the Brazilian someone who can move into Juventus’ starting XI and improve the team immediately. He’s seen as a big step forward in quality.

Buscaglia is quoted by TuttoJuve as saying: “Douglas Luiz, to date, is the market’s coup. This player intrigues me a lot, he caught my eye last year at Aston Villa and with Thiago Motta he can do very well, also considering the playing style of the former Spezia and Bologna coach.

“This is a high-quality signing, a player that Juve didn’t have in their squad: of course, however, we are just past mid-July, so a lot can also happen on the market. At the moment, however, the Brazilian is the best purchase in Serie A, clearly: then, obviously, there is Morata at Milan, there is Taremi at Inter who is a crazy purchase, even if he went unnoticed.”

Douglas Luiz will of course be a big loss to Unai Emery, but Aston Villa are moving strongly in the market too and there’s already several midfield options through the door.

There’s every chance Aston Villa will have a more squad based approach next season as they compete in the Champions League, that may have seen Monchi move to bring the numbers through the door.
