Despite the signing of Radu Dragușin, Tottenham were linked with another centre-back soon after, Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.
The 21-year-old has impressed with the Serie A side this season, which is why it wasn’t surprising to see Spurs, who have used the Italian league as a hunting ground over the past few years, interested.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday have a lengthy article on the young defender, where they heavily hint at that Tottenham’s interest will prove fruitless this month.
They claim the rumours regarding Spurs wanting Calafiori started in England, when they didn’t, but also suggest that Bologna are aware of the Premier League club sniffing around.
Gazzetta report the Serie A side have ‘no intention’ of selling him or any other of their key players, such as Joshua Zirkzee, this month, meaning the summer is a likelier time to strike a deal with them.
They know ‘the market is always an ugly beast’, and it will be ‘hard to resist’ advances in the next transfer window, but they don’t intend to do anything in January.
Therefore, the idea of a transfer to Tottenham in the coming week or so can be placed firmly as a rumour for the time being, as Calafiori and Bologna have ‘no intention of splitting up just yet’.
