Mario Balotelli had a torrid time at Liverpool. It was clear from pretty much day one that Brendan Rodgers wasn’t keen on the signing, and the manager wasn’t prepared to play his part in trying to make a success of the move to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t believe he had a place for Balotelli at Liverpool either, given he already had Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, and Danny Ings. Balotelli was allowed to leave by Liverpool last summer and moved to Nice.

At a Celtic event Rodgers was asked which is the best player he’s ever coached, and jokingly answered Mario Balotelli, to the widespread laughs the former Liverpool manager was clearly craving.

Balotelli has since answered via Twitter:

So far this season, Balotelli has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Nice. In his last four matches the former Liverpool player has scored four times, added an assist, and picked up two Man of the Match awards.

Perhaps the joke’s on Brendan Rodgers.
