Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia has made it clear Emerson Palmieri’s contract will not be renewed ahead of a potential loan deal this summer.

That’s according to journalist Ciro Venerato, who says Chelsea want to avoid being stuck with the Italian long-term.

Emerson has been heavily linked with a return to Italy this summer, having played a peripheral role at Chelsea for more than a year.

Napoli are keen on him as they need a new left-back, but with finances at the club tight, they would prefer a loan deal more than a permanent one.

That’s something Chelsea are not going to sanction as it would mean Emerson becoming a free agent at the end of it, with his contract set to expire in 2022.

One solution would be for them to renew his deal and then loan him out, but according to Venerato, Granovskaia has made it clear that won’t be happening.

“As far as the incoming operations of Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club are concerned, even the Torre del Greco lifeguard knows that the main target is Emerson Palmieri,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Area Napoli.

“For the left defensive wing, I rule out Nuno Tavares. Emerson Palmieri has made it clear that he wants to change teams, but he wants to be sold outright.

“Chelsea would have to extend his contract in order to loan him out. At the moment, Marina Granovskaia tells me that it’s impossible: no renewal for those who are leaving.

“Then, if it goes wrong, they could find themselves having renewed a player out of the projects. Napoli are hoping to make a low-ball offer and bring the player home permanently at a more than affordable price.”
