Barcelona tried signing Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, before his loan move to Aston Villa in the winter market.

Aston Villa have a purchase option, but the forward’s priority is to join Barcelona in the summer window.

That’s according to Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, who cover the steps taken by the Manchester United man to fulfil his main goal.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to have a future at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim and doesn’t seem to be keen on extending his stay at Aston Villa.

Mundo state the England international has made a ‘strategic move’ by asking Pini Zahavi to handle his affairs. The representative’s client list includes Barca’s Robert Lewandowski and their manager, Hansi Flick.

Zahavi has close ties with the Catalan club and their president, Joan Laporta. Rashford is of the belief this could open the Camp Nou doors for him as his main objective is to join Barcelona in the upcoming window.

In this way, the Manchester United owned player has offered himself to the La Liga club and is willing to lower his salary to secure a move. Mundo Deportivo believe if it happens it’s likely to be a loan move instead of a permanent transfer.

Mundo found out from sources close to the attacker that talks have already started with Barca, while the club are refusing to discuss the transfer market for now.
