Just after being presented by Everton, Marco Silva has given interviews to two of Portugal’s major sports newspapers, Record and O Jogo.

Earlier today, we’ve covered his quotes with Record, where he claimed he still hasn’t suggested any signings from the Portuguese league to the club.

But departures were also a subject in these chats, especially because Silva claimed Everton’s squad has ’38 players’, so they ‘must analyse’ the situation first.

There was only one Everton player mentioned in the interview, and that was Wayne Rooney. O Jogo asked about his future, and to explain it to its readers, mentioned the interest from DC United in taking the former England captain to MLS.

“I’m going to talk to Rooney, who has the doors open, but it’s his decision,” said Silva.

“In the squad, I want competitiveness, we need to go to the market to have a bigger fight for a place in the eleven – it’s important.”

We’re not sure if Wayne Rooney reads the Portuguese press in the morning, but in case he gets to see this quote, he better be prepared to fight to earn his place at Everton or take a plane to the United States.
