Arsenal will not play in next season’s Champions League after finishing sixth in the league table. The Gunners also saw Arsene Wenger leave the Emirates after managing the north London club for 22 years.
A lot of work needs to be done at the club after a disappointing campaign, but their immediate priority now is helping Wenger’s successor.
Unai Emery has been appointed as Arsenal’s new manager, and seems absolutely thrilled with the opportunity. The next task for him is to finalise his backroom staff.
According to Marca, Juan Carlos Carcedo, Pablo Villanueva and Víctor Mañas will be part of the staff at Arsenal. Carcedo was Emery’s right-hand man at Almería, Valencia, Sevilla and PSG and is expected to follow him to England. Villanueva will be the assistant coach and Mañas will be the video assistant.
The report claims Emery and three core members of his backroom staff believe it is best to have a “local assistant”. Marca claims Arsenal legend Steve Bould, who was Wenger’s assistant since 2012 is identified as a possibility.
But he’s not the only option, with the newspaper saying Emery may go for ‘a former Gunner who manages Spanish well’
