AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas was strongly linked to a number of clubs during the transfer window.
London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea were reportedly keen on signing him, but the Serie A club were reluctant to sell him as his former club Olympiacos would’ve got 50% of the transfer fee had he left the club before September 1.
However, the clause has expired now and AS Roma are very well aware of the interest in the Greek international.
The Serie A club are ready to offer Manolas a new contract, and have already met his agent, Yannis Evangeloupolos, yesterday, reports local Italian website Forza Roma.
The 25-year-old is currently earning €1.5m/season and has a contract until 2019, but could earn around €4.5m/season should he agree to a new contract.
Manolas could also ask for a release clause in his contract to secure a way out of the club. Forza Roma say Arsenal offered €39m for Manolas, but the Serie A club turned down the bid.
It’d be interesting to see if the Gunners will continue to keep close tabs on Manolas, whilst Antonio Conte could also revive Chelsea’s interest in the defender.
