Manchester United have been regularly named as a contender to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer.

On Monday, RMC Sport reported the Red Devils and Chelsea have made approaches.

The Italy international is on the front page of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport, where it’s said Manchester United and Chelsea are ‘in pole’ to sign him.

Donnarumma’s contract expires in 2026 and he hasn’t accepted PSG’s renewal offer. He lost his place at Parc des Princes after Lucas Chevalier’s arrival earlier this month. Luis Enrique made this evident by leaving him out to face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

Gazzetta say the ‘divorce is inevitable’ between the player and the Ligue 1 winners, and he now needs to find a solution. The hottest lead points to England where the Red Devils and Chelsea are keen.

Juventus could be an option in Italy, who are said to be seeking a loan deal. This may not work out considering he’s in his final year of his contract.

For now, Donnarumma hasn’t received any offers and is in Paris with his family, waiting to find out what PSG plan to do with him. Gazzetta suggest he could train separately with the club’s fringe players.

Luis Enrique’s decision to drop the goalkeeper has led to more speculation around his future. TuttoMercatoWeb reports his future seems to be pointing to the Premier League, and only Manchester United are mentioned.

L’Equipe also claim PSG could send him to train with fringe the players, who are left out of Luis Enrique’s plans for this season.

Donnarumma ‘will have to listen to offers’, but he won’t give in to PSG’s pressure and will take his time to decide his next step. Manchester United are mentioned as they are the ‘most interested club’ to sign him.
