Manchester United will ‘take the necessary time’ to make a decision on a move for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt despite an interest in him.

That’s according to Fussball News, who say there are three areas of concern for Manchester United regarding a move for the Dutch defender.

They explain that, as reports lately have stated, Bayern are open to selling De Ligt next summer and Manchester United are taking a ‘closer look’ at him as they look to revive their defence moving forwards.

Erik ten Hag knows the player well from their time together at Ajax and indeed was key to his development but ‘there are doubts’ about a move in the summer.

First and foremost, they’re concerned about De Ligt’s recent injury history, with him having been absent a total of 15 times since joining Bayern. He’s also had bad luck with injuries throughout his career and there are question marks whether he could survive in the intensity of the Premier League.

They’re also aware that the defender lacks pace and, adding him to an already slow Manchester United team could be a problem. In fact, the worry is that they would need to sign another defender to go alongside him.

That would be troublesome given Bayern’s asking price is ‘extremely high’, with them likely to demand €60m, €65m or perhaps even €70m. that’s a big price to pay if you then have to sign another player to go alongside him.

Ten Hag is a big fan of the centre-back, though, and there aren’t many top defensive players on the market for a team looking in that area.

It’s a question of whether that opportunity is enough to overcome the doubts Manchester United have, with them intent on taking ‘the necessary time’ to make a decision on the defender.
