PSG demanding €70m for Manuel Ugarte has seemingly shocked Manchester United. That’s a fair response because before the €60-70m claims started swirling around it was thought the midfielder would be able to leave for much less or even on loan.
He hasn’t been a prominent player for PSG since arriving from Sporting, with Luis Enrique not thought to be a fan of the Uruguayan.
Thursday’s edition of Correio da Manhã reacts to claims in England that Manchester United are instead turning their attention to Mortem Hjulmand.
The 25-year-old impressed for Sporting after they bought him for €18m last summer. He also scored one of the best goals at Euro 2024 which has obviously helped raise his profile.
A major barrier in any approach would be Sporting manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach has a handful of players each year who he deems untouchable, and the media around the club then states those players can only leave for their release clauses.
Hjulmand’s stands at €80m.
So, if Manchester United want to go for the Denmark international they’ll have to hit that figure, or get reasonably close and hope their charm can sway Sporting in negotiations.
