Manchester United are ‘very vigilant’ about the situation around Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, with Roma pushing to secure his signature.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say the Italians are pushing to try and get a deal for the 20-year-old over the line.
They explain that with Roger Ibanez seemingly on his way out of club, Roma are looking to reinvest the funds on a new striker, particularly with Tammy Abraham out injured for much of the season.
Leonardo is the man that they like and is ‘very popular’ with those in charge at the club who have been holding constant contacts with Santos over the last three days.
They’re looking to move quickly as they know there is competition for the player’s signature, specifically from Manchester United, who are ‘very vigilant’ about the striker’s situation.
They’re also looking for offensive reinforcements this summer and Leonardo has been linked with a move, albeit only in the background as they push to get Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer from Atalanta completed.
They made need to move quickly if they are keen, though, with Roma and specifically director of football Tiago Pinto having no intention of letting the player go.
They’re taking further steps to do the deal and even increased their recent offer for him in an effort to convince Sporting and beat the likes of Manchester United to the deal.
