Manchester United’s hopes of a positive result against FC Copenhagen this result may have been handed a boost as striker Andreas Cornelius will not feature in the game.
That’s according to Fotboll Skanalen, who say there is confusion over his absence after the player was included in the match-day squad over the weekend.
They explain that Cornelius has had something of a difficult time at Copenhagen since his arrival, with one injury having replaced another and limited his gametime.
He made his ‘long-awaited comeback’ over the weekend after being away for a month and immediately made an impact as he grabbed an assist for the winning goal in the 2-1 win over Vejle.
The expectation was that he would therefore be in the group travelling to England for the clash with Manchester United this week in the Champions League.
However, it appears that will not be the case, with Fotboll Skanalen reporting on a statement from the club’s official website ahead of the Manchester United clash.
“Andreas Cornelius will not travel to Manchester, but it has been planned for a long time and he is not injured,” coach Jacob Neestrup commented.
“We believe it is necessary to exclude him from this match to ensure that his comeback is as good as possible.”
The striker, though, has moved to allay any fear about his situation and simply confirmed that his absence was always part of the plan.
“It was planned in advance. There is nothing in it. It’s all about dosage. I can’t play three games in a week,” he told Tipsbladet.
