This week, surprising reports from Spain claimed Manchester United could attempt to sign Vinícius Junior from Real Madrid.
It was first said by Defensa Central (but all trace of that appears to have vanished) and covered by Sport that the Red Devils would like to pay €150m for the signing, and Florentino Perez could spend the money on Kylian Mbappé.
Well, that was never a story that made much sense, and now ESPN Brasil comes up to basically dismiss any chances of Vinícius’ transfer to Manchester United.
Gustavo Hofman, their correspondent in Madrid, claims there were never contacts from the Red Devils, even via intermediaries, with the player’s entourage.
Plus people around Vinícius claim that €150m would never convince Real Madrid, as Manchester United would need at least €250m to open talks.
The story brings two more factors for why that attempt would not make sense. Firstly, because Florentino Perez recently turned down a €150m bid for Federico Valverde, not even considering it, and Vinicius is supposed to be worth much more. Then it’s also said that Mbappé’s signing is not related to the sale of any players.
That should put those rumours to bed, as even Manchester United probably know it’s unrealistic to try and sign the Brazilian.
